What is the best way to install AVG on Windows? (Without Customize button)
When setting up AVG on Windows, here is a straight forward guide to getting everything setup on your PC.
1. First, download the ONLINE or OFFLINE AVG setup file. You don't need both.
2. Next, open the setup file you downloaded.
3. Make sure you uncheck "Yes, install AVG Secure Browser" if you have that option.
4. Click "Install".
5. After AVG finishes installing, open it and goto Settings > General > Personal Privacy and uncheck all of the boxes for maximum privacy.
6. Then, goto Settings > General > Notifications and for "Pop-up notification treatment" select "Limited Mode".
7. Now, lets get rid of all of the bloat that comes with AVG. Follow carefully:
Search and open "Add or remove programs" from the Windows start menu.
8. Find "AVG AntiVirus Free" and click it. Then click "Modify".
9. Once it opens, click "Minimal Protection".
You can unselect "Web Shield" also. Only "File Shield" and "Behavior Shield" need to be checked.
10. Lastly, click "Customize". Once its done it will prompt you to restart your computer. After your computer restarts, you're all done.
That's it! AVG should be setup to the most basic out of box settings that is recommended. You may now change any settings you like if needed. You do not need an account.
⚠️ Be aware that AVG often uses scare tactics and pop-ups to push purchases. Ignore them. Use AVG only as an antivirus and ignore extra features or warnings like "Web & Email Protection" or "Performance Optimization." The free plan usually provides sufficient protection for most users, so you don't need to feel pressured to buy additional services. Focus on what you need for effective protection. Also, even with the privacy switches disabled in settings, it is unknown how 'privacy friendly' AVG is. Doing so at least minimizes data collection. |
